International Women's Day, 2023

“DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality”

International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated annually on March 8th to celebrate women’s achievements, raise awareness about gender inequality, and promote women’s rights. In 2023, the theme for IWD is “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality.”

The theme highlights the important role that technology and innovation can play in advancing gender equality and empowering women. Women have historically been underrepresented in the technology industry, but the theme encourages women to embrace technology and pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields.

The theme also calls for the use of technology to address gender inequality, discrimination, and violence against women. Digital platforms can be used to amplify women’s voices, provide access to information and resources, and promote gender equality. For example, online networks and social media can be used to connect women and facilitate the sharing of knowledge and experiences.

In addition, technology can be used to improve women’s health, education, and economic opportunities. For example, telemedicine can improve access to healthcare in remote areas, while online education can provide women with opportunities to gain new skills and knowledge. The use of digital finance tools and mobile banking can also improve women’s financial inclusion and economic empowerment.

International Women’s Day with the theme “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality” is an opportunity to celebrate the progress made towards gender equality through technology, while also recognizing the work that still needs to be done. It encourages women to embrace technology, and calls for the use of technology to advance gender equality and empower women.
